About
Seneca County Designated Community Committee
The America 250-Ohio Seneca County Designated Community Committee is a local group formed to represent Seneca County’s partnership with the statewide America 250-Ohio initiative — Ohio’s commemoration of the United States’ 250th anniversary in 2026. This committee is made up of passionate civic leaders, community representatives, educators, historians, and volunteers who reflect the diversity of Seneca County and are committed to celebrating our local history and heritage.
As an America 250-Ohio Designated Community, Seneca County has officially joined hundreds of Ohio communities taking part in this milestone statewide effort. Designated communities work hand-in-hand with the America 250-Ohio Commission to plan celebratory events, share stories of local contributions to our nation, and create meaningful experiences for residents and visitors alike.
Who We Are
Our committee includes members appointed from:
-
Local government officials
-
Civic, cultural, and nonprofit organizations
-
Historic and educational institutions
-
Community volunteers with expertise in storytelling, programming, and event coordination
Together, these committee members bring passion and purpose to Seneca County’s America 250 celebration, ensuring our community’s story is part of Ohio’s contribution to the national semiquincentennial.
What the America 250-Ohio Designated Community Program Is
The America 250-Ohio Designated Community program invites counties, cities, villages, and townships across the state to join an official network of communities celebrating the nation’s 250th anniversary by connecting local history to broader state and national narratives. Designated communities receive access to resources like digital toolkits, planning support, recognition on the America 250-Ohio platform, and opportunities to collaborate with other communities throughout Ohio.
This designation empowers communities to create local activities and events that align with the broader mission of America 250-Ohio — to honor and share the stories of Ohio’s role in shaping the nation’s past, present, and future.
