Welcome to The Historical Octagon House & Farm
Tucked away just beyond Green Springs, the Historical Octagon House & Farm at 7618 North Township Road 32, Clyde, OH 43410 is a destination where history, hospitality, and the beauty of the countryside come together. Once one of the rare octagonal homes built in Ohio before 1860, this remarkable property has been carefully preserved and reimagined for today, welcoming guests for weddings, celebrations, and overnight stays.
The story of the Octagon House stretches back more than 160 years. Originally constructed by Thomas Dunnage, the home is an example of a unique American architectural style championed by Orson Squire Fowler, who believed octagons could bring efficiency and harmony to daily living. Over time, the property passed through the hands of families like Rahla Pontius and later Eldon and Kathryn Powell, who raised their family here while farming its land. By the mid-20th century, the house stood as a local landmark, but one that was beginning to show its age.
In 2021, Bill and Jeanne Frankart purchased the property with a vision to breathe new life into it. What began as a project to share the house as a short-term rental quickly grew as more people discovered its charm. Guests loved the historic details paired with thoughtful updates such as new flooring, updated bathrooms, air conditioning, and even a recreation area with games in the garage. The success of those early stays inspired the Frankarts to take the next step, restoring the barn and opening the grounds as a wedding and event venue.
Today, the Historical Octagon House & Farm offers an enchanting backdrop for special occasions. The barn blends rustic beauty with modern comforts including heating, cooling, and restrooms, making it a welcoming space for gatherings of up to 250 people. Couples can exchange vows outdoors surrounded by farm fields and then celebrate the night away inside and outside the historic structure. Meanwhile, the Octagon House itself offers overnight accommodations with three bedrooms, two and a half baths, a full kitchen, laundry, and comfortable spaces filled with natural light. Guests can also enjoy pool, foosball, and ping pong or simply relax on the property’s three acres of woods and yard.
The location is both peaceful and convenient, sitting just 15 minutes from Fremont, Tiffin, and Bellevue and within an hour’s drive of Cedar Point. It feels like an escape to the countryside without losing touch with nearby attractions and amenities.
For the Frankarts, the project has always been about more than renovations. They see themselves as caretakers of a place with deep roots in Seneca County’s story. By opening the doors of the Historical Octagon House & Farm, they have created a space where the past is honored and the present is celebrated. Visitors arrive curious about the history, but they leave with their own memories of weddings, family gatherings, and weekend retreats.
If you are searching for a venue that offers both history and hospitality, or simply a unique getaway surrounded by fields and fresh country air, the Historical Octagon House & Farm is ready to welcome you.
