TIFFIN, OHIO – May 11, 2020 – The 2020 Tiffin-Seneca Farmers Market season launches this coming weekend.
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused some changes to the way the market will function, at least for the first two market dates. For May 16 and 30, the market will be drive-thru and delivery, pre-order only. Orders must be made by Thursday, May 14, and can be placed by visiting tiffinsenecafarmersmarket.com or Facebook page, facebook.com/tiffinsenecafarmersmarket. Specific instructions for ordering, drive-thru and pick-up procedures also can be found online.
Beginning in 2019, a new organization called Seneca County Common Ground was formed to take over market operations. Seneca County Common Ground is a new 501(c)3 nonprofit that is focusing on supporting local food & agriculture vendors and promoting access to fresh foods. This year’s major market sponsor is Sutton Bank.
The market previously was organized by the Seneca Regional Chamber of Commerce & Visitor Services. “The community is very grateful for the service of the Chamber in developing and sustaining the farmers market over the years,” said Rev. Aaron Gerlach, President of the Common Ground board. “We’re looking forward to growing the market and extending the impact of local food in the community.”
Several changes to the market have been made for 2020 including moving the market to Jefferson and Court streets, recruiting additional vendors and hiring Courtney Heiser as a part-time Market Manger.
“It has been very exciting to have such an important role in developing this market and I’ve enjoyed using my skills to make it happen,” said Heiser, who is a graduate of Seneca East High School and is studying Agricultural Communications at The Ohio State University.
This year’s major market sponsor if Sutton Bank. If you would like to get involved with the “Friends of the Market” group which will provide volunteers and fundraising support for the markets, or if you are a vendor who would like to sell at the market, please contact Courtney at email@example.com.
