Tiffin Columbian High School is once again home to Tornado Alley, a school store housed in the main hallway. After closing its doors more than ten years ago, this student-ran business has opened a walk-up window for students- providing a rewarding and educational experience for both its customers and student employees.

This brick and mortar location will be operated as a co-op, bringing together several different groups into one, unified space.

It will serve as a PBIS Ticket Redemption Center. PBIS is a framework that guides school teams in the selection, integration, and implementation of evidence-based practices for improving academic, social and behavior outcomes for all students. The PBIS process emphasizes four integrated elements: data for decision making, evidence-based interventions and practices that support varying student needs (multi-tiered), systems that efficiently and effectively support implementation of these practices, and continual progress monitoring to ensure outcomes are met.

Students acquire PBIS tickets by demonstrating positive behaviors. These tickets can be redeemed for rewards. Currently the store has school supplies, board games, water bottles, and Columbian gear. Local businesses can donate gift cards and/or merchandise that will be used as student rewards. If your business would like to donate merchandise and/or gift cards, please contact Greg DeVore at 419-447-6331 or greg_devore@tiffincityschools.org.

It will serve as a school spirit shop; customers will have the opportunity to purchase school spirit items offered by organizations and clubs throughout the building. The Athletic Boosters have several items available in this new storefront, including t-shirts, blankets, and hats. Business students will sell fresh baked cookies from this location instead of a mobile cart. Other teams and clubs will be encouraged to utilize this space to help reach their customers when fundraising.

Students in Columbian’s Entrepreneurship class have worked diligently with Mr. DeVore to make this reopening possible. The students will continue to oversee its operation, manage the inventory, and maintain store hours daily during lunch. Tornado Alley hopes to extend its hours for after-school functions during sporting events, the spring musical, and more.
