More than 70 participants have signed up for the Tiffin Bicentennial Heritage Festival Parade that will take place on Saturday, September 17, 2022, beginning at 10:30 AM. The parade is organized by Destination Seneca County and is sponsored by loanDepot-Brian Bower. The parade will begin by St. Joseph Catholic Church in Downtown Tiffin and continue down South Washington St. until Riverside Drive.

The parade will feature entries such as an original Pennsylvania wagon that came from Lancaster, Pennsylvania to Seneca County in the 1830’s, marching bands from area schools and universities, dance groups, local businesses, and more.

 Those who have not signed up and who are interested can register by this Friday, September 9, 2022 at DestinationSenecaCounty.org/parade. All registrants will receive an email the week of September 12, 2022, with their line up order and further directions.

 Those who wish to not participate in the parade are invited to be a spectator and enjoy watching the different entries pass by. Before and after the parade, you can enjoy browsing the Tiffin-Seneca Farmers Market which will take place in City Lot 7 (located next to Simply Susan’s) the day of the parade from 9AM until 1PM. After the parade, you can partake in the activities that the Heritage Festival has to offer such as the German Village Block in Downtown Tiffin, Heritage Village at Hedges-Boyer Park, and other activities and vendors on Jefferson St. and Court St. To learn more about the Heritage Festival schedule, visit TiffinFestival.com.

Don’t forget that SNAP, SFMNP, WIC, Produce Perks, and Credit Cards are accepted at the Farmers Market. 

The Tiffin Seneca Farmers’ Market offers a  market bank program that allows shoppers from all economic backgrounds to shop at the farmers market. Whether a customer has an EBT Card or did not bring cash they will still be able to purchase goods from the vendors.

Produce Perk tokens can be used to purchase fruits and vegetables, fresh herbs, and plants producing foods. SNAP tokens can be used to purchase fruits and vegetables, herbs, food producing plants, honey, maple, meats, eggs, milk, jam, jellie, relish, and baked goods. WIC vouchers can be used to purchase fruits and vegetables, and herbs. Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program vouchers can be used to purchase fruits and vegetables, herbs, and honey. Credit card tokens can be used to purchase anything from the farmers market.

Farmers market manager, Kirsten Ameling, said “We are glad to be able to offer a program that allows everyone to have access to fresh fruits and vegetables and other goods.”

The farmers market still offers the Market Bank. The market bank allows consumers to use their EBT cards to purchase produce at the market. The farmers market offers a matching program “Produce Perks” up to $25 from what the customer spent from their EBT cards. WIC farmers market vouchers, Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program vouchers, and credit card tokens are also accepted at the Tiffin Seneca Farmer’s Market.

The market bank program is a good source of extra revenue to be brought to local businesses in the Seneca County area community.

In addition to getting something good to eat, Thursday Night Tunes featuring Band Bash 2022 will be taking place at the Frost-Kalnow Amphitheatre at the East Green. This Saturday the Tiffin Seneca Farmers’ Market will be celebrating Christmas in July. The event will be fun for all! Activities for the day will include voting on the most festive vendor, an ugly Christmas sweater/t-shirt contest, and Christmas Crafts. There will be Christmas themed cookies, snacks and more! Market manager Kirsten Ameling said “we are looking forward to seeing families out celebrating Christmas at the market as a fun change of pace at the farmers’ market!” Voting on the favorite vendor display will go from 9-12 and the Christmas sweater/t-shirt voting will take place at noon in front of the market bank table.

Join fellow Tiffin-ites for a farm to table dining experience to celebrate the 200th birthday of Tiffin and our tradition of local food. Lonny Gatlin, the Farm-to-Table chef for Bellwether Farms will be the guest chef for the evening! This event includes a five course meal, local beers, and wines. It will take place at the Chandelier Community Event Center, on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, beginning at 6:00 pm.

Seneca County Common Ground is a nonprofit organization created to support local food & agriculture and promote access to and knowledge of fresh foods for Seneca County residents. Vendors that are frequently at the Farmers Market including Riehm’s Produce Farm, LLC, Clay Hill Organic, Bella Cuisine, and others will be bringing fresh produce and breads to the event. The Association

Built in 1928 to capture the huge demand for “talkies,” The Ritz Theatre became “the” place to see movies in Tiffin. 

 

The Seneca County Fair will take place Sunday, July 24, 2023 through Sunday, July 31, 2023 and will be celebrating its 180th year! There will be many new and exciting events alongside the traditional favorites. There is something for everyone, all ages, interests, and backgrounds. Enjoy the friendly competition and proud display of projects and products from exhibitors that have worked so hard to accomplish and complete. Take in a night of entertainment in the grandstands with harness racing, to the demolition derby, to seeing headliner Granger Smith live, and more! Take in the sights and sounds of this Seneca County tradition and create memories that will last a lifetime. The 180th Seneca County Fair is waiting for you!

Kristen Merlin

This Nashville-based country pop artist works hard to move the masses with music and finds several ways to stay connected with her audiences. During her time in quarantine, Merlin often found herself utilizing the Live feature on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok.

Merlin is altering the way we hear country music with the likes of Dan+Shay and Kane Brown. She has a timbre so unique and unmatched, such as Reba McEntire, Rascal Flatts, and Jennifer Nettles. Both Kristian Bush and Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland noticed this about Merlin and invited her on stage with them in Las Vegas to duet their hit song “Baby Girl”. Kristen has also had the pleasure of joining Kellie Pickler, Bryan White, Ty Herndon, and Shakira on stage.

The Tiffin Glass Collectors Club will host the 35th Annual Artistry in American Glass Show and Sale this weekend! 

The show will take place at the Tiffin Middle School (103 Shepherd Drive, Tiffin, OH 44883) on Saturday, June 18, 2022 from 10AM to 5PM and Sunday, June 19, 2022 from 10AM to 3PM. The popular glass show has been a longstanding tradition for 35 years and this will be the first show since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, which resulted in the last two years being cancelled. 

Glass dealers from several states will join local and area dealers at this popular glass show that attracts collectors from all over the United States. The fine tableware and decorative ware that was produced at the Tiffin Glass factory from 1892 to 1980 will be offered for sale along with other quality glassware from fellow dealers.

Admission to the show will be $5.00. The show is in a handicapped accessible facility with free parking. Lunch and snacks are available for purchase and door prizes will be awarded throughout the show.

Visitors are also encouraged to visit the Tiffin Glass Museum & Shoppe (25 – 27 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH 44883) where over a thousand pieces of glassware and memorabilia items from the old factory are displayed. The retail shop offers Tiffin glass and other fine glassware for sale. Extended hours of 11AM to 5PM will be observed during the weekend.

About the Tiffin Glass Museum & Shoppe

The Tiffin Glass Museum honors the heritage established by the men and women of Tiffin’s “Glass House”. Through preservation and education, the museum safe-guards glassware made by the artisans from the factory’s nearly hundred-year history. Museum preservation work includes acquiring memorabilia and historical documents from the factory’s beginnings in 1889 until its closing in 1984. Gift Shoppe features products from the original Tiffin Glass Factory where beautiful stemware, tableware and decorative ware was produced from 1889 to 1980. In addition to the large selection of Tiffin Glass, other fine glassware, collectibles, and books are offered for sale in the multi-dealer cabinets.

The Tiffin Seneca Farmers’ Market is a Family Affair! 

When you support your local farmers market you are supporting an entire family.  

When shopping at the Tiffin Seneca Farmers’ Market customers will see kids running around and playing with other farmers market children, some early teens are experiencing their first job, and families are working together to provide fresh produce baked goods and other items to be purchased at the market. 

The Tiffin Seneca Farmers Market provides a kid friendly environment with children activities including market bingo and coloring sheets.  This week a Kona Ice truck will also be at the market for kids to enjoy. 

Farmers markets allow families to spend time together, work together, and learn and grow together. Emily Wonder, owner of Put Your Name on It 2014 said, “ For most people Saturday mornings are relaxing and family time.  Although ours may not be relaxing, it is family time. We are a family of six that are vendors at the farmers market. Everyone of us has a job that we are expected to do to prepare for the market and at the market. Most people have to find sitters for kids when they go to work, we on the other hand take our kids with us. Helping them learn responsibility but more than anything  they are forming friendships with kids that are growing up with the same hard working background. Bryce (owner of Trigger’s Farm Market) and I have also made friends with other vendors. We help each other set up, tear down and loan items when someone forgets.  Half the time we see our “Market Family” more during the season than we do our actual extended family.”

The relationships between the vendors and the customers have grown more and more with every market. All of the vendors have been Ellen Bell, Owner of Baked by Bells said, “​​As a small business owner, I love having the opportunity to share the farmer’s market experience as a family. It gives us a scheduled time to work together as a team every week and learn to appreciate the hard work and skills of other crafters and growers in the community. We have also been so lucky to find a new market family with all the great friends we have made along the way.”

Many of the vendors at the farmers market also support each other and purchase products from one another. Annie Bowers, of Goat Milk Junction said, “The farmers market is a wonderful resource for natural, homegrown and homemade items. My family benefits from it all. With being a vendor that produces natural skin, hair care and pain relief, I have a vast clientele and repeat clients. Plus the community loves it due to the fact that it is accessible to our community and they don’t have to travel very far to get what they need. Fresh produce being one of those items, is a staple in many households like mine. So while I am a vendor at these markets I am also a customer.”

The farmers market is also a way for families to be created and do better for a common good. Leah Cordy, Owner of Hope’s Landing said, “The Tiffin Seneca Farmers Market gives us a place to sell our products directly to our community. All of our products are made by local survivors of human trafficking and domestic violence, so the ability to sell at this market puts money directly into survivor’s pockets. The market is also a great way to spend a Saturday morning with my family and friends, while in the heart of surrounding downtown businesses. There’s something for everyone!”

The Farmers Market also gives community members a way to get involved. Marilyn Seislove, Principal Calvert Elementary said, “I think the farmers market is a wonderful experience for the families in Tiffin. There is something for everyone, both old and young. This past week Calvert offered face painting and I think it was fabulous. The kids absolutely  loved it!! The expressions on their faces were priceless. The market provides local homegrown fruits and vegetables, handmade items, and a time to chat  with old friends. It is an opportunity that reminds me of days gone by. It is reminiscent of the way things used to be in small towns.”

 This weekend be sure to bring your family out to the Tiffin Seneca Farmers’ Market for Kona Ice, activities, and to support the local families of Seneca County.

Riehm Produce Farm is excited to announce their season opener for 2022! The season opener will be held Saturday, June 4, 2022 from 10am-2pm at Riehm Produce Farm located at 7244 N State Route 53 Tiffin, OH 44883. During the opener, you can enjoy the sights, sounds, smells, and tastes of the season on Riehm’s beautiful countryside farm!

Seneca County Young professionals’ Downtown Tiffin Pizza Party | September 15 – Bring the whole family to enjoy a taste of Tiffin and Seneca County! The event will take place throughout Downtown Tiffin. Attendees can purchase $1 tickets that can be redeemed for a pizza from any vendor. Half of each ticket sold will go toward charity. 

Halloween Trick-or-Treat | October 20 – Bring the kids for the annual downtown trick-or-treat from 3:30-5:00. Then grab your friends for an early Halloween fun night out. Shop, grab a drink… and maybe dinner and dessert too!

The UrbanWoody Brewery has announced a new summer concert series that will take place at the stage in downtown Fostoria. The stage is located on the corner of S Main St. and Tiffin St., directly across from The UrbanWoody Brewery. Concerts are family friendly and will be accompanied by a food truck. The cost to attend the concert will be $5 per guest and the funds will be reinvested back into the revitalization efforts of downtown Fostoria.

Destination Seneca County, in partnership with Seneca County breweries, is set to launch the first ever Seneca County Brew Tour on Saturday, April 2, 2022. The brew tour aims to highlight Seneca County’s growing brewery industry and allow locals and visitors the opportunity to explore what Seneca County has to offer. The brew tour can be completed at the leisure of the participants once live and will run through the remainder of 2022. The Seneca County Brew Tour will allow participants the opportunity to explore Seneca County with visits to three local breweries. Breweries include The Laird Arcade Brewery, The Tiffin Brewery, and The UrbanWoody Brewery. While completing the brew tour, visitors will also have an opportunity to ‘Love Local’ and will upload a receipt of patronizing a local business to complete the entire trail.

Guests who visit each one of the breweries and ‘love local’ will complete the online passport. Once they have completed the passport with all the information they have collected, they will show the final score screen with a 100% correct to their last brewery stop and will receive a custom one-of-a-kind Seneca County Brew Tour howler. The howlers can also be filled at any of the participating breweries for an additional cost.

About The Laird Arcade Brewery: A 3.5 BBL brewhouse focusing mostly on taproom sales, with some local distribution. Their emphasis is to promote as much local business as they can. The Tiffin Bicentennial Committee will host the first event in a year’s worth of planned events to kick off and celebrate Tiffin’s 200^th year.  The Tiffin Bicentennial Proclamation will take place Friday, March 25, 2022, beginning at 6PM at The Ritz Theatre, 30 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH.  The event is free and open to the public.

 The event will feature the presentation of the United States flag, singing of the National Anthem, recognition of Tiffin’s First Settlers and distinguished guests, an official proclamation from City of Tiffin Mayor, Aaron Montz, and a historical walk through of how Tiffin came to be and its history.  Prior to the event’s start, guests can enjoy historical pictures of Tiffin, order a Tiffin 200 building plaque, check to see if their family is one of Tiffin’s First Settlers, and more in the lobby of The Ritz Theatre.

The State of Ohio currently has 137 colleges and universities that those interested in a higher education have the option to attend.  Seneca County is unique for the fact that there are TWO universities within the city limits of Tiffin to choose from.  These highly respected schools include Heidelberg University and Tiffin University.  

In addition to the higher education institutions available, residents of Seneca County have the opportunity to choose from a long list of educational opportunities for students grades K-12.  These include Bridges Preparatory Academy, Calvert Catholic Schools, Fostoria City Schools, Hopewell-Loudon Schools, New Riegel Local Schools, North Central Academy, Old Fort Local School District, Seneca East Local Schools, Tiffin City Schools, and Vanguard-Sentinel Career & Technology Centers.

 It’s time to deck the halls and trim those trees, because the holiday season is upon us in Seneca County!  There is lots to do — cheer to be spread, carols to be sung, gifts to be bought, and memories to be shared. We don’t want you to miss out on any of it!

The very last market of the year is Saturday, October 23 and will feature Halloween festivities including trick-or-treat and face painting for kids, and all customers and vendors are encouraged to come in costume.  Trick-or-treat will take place from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. (while supplies last).  Most of the vendors will be participating and handing out candy.  The Seneca County Common Ground Board will be voting on their favorite costume and their favorite handmade costume. The winner of each category will receive a prize.

In addition to trick-or-treat, Destination Seneca County and Seneca County Common Ground will be sponsoring face painting by Shining star Faces at the October 23 farmers market from 9-1 on Jefferson Street.  “I am extremely excited to paint faces for trick-or-treaters at the farmers market. Getting to have fun with the community through the art of face painting is truly something that I enjoy,” stated Connie Maksemetz, owner of Shining Star Faces.

 As the 2021 market season is coming to a close, the Seneca County Common Ground Board, market manager, and vendors thank the community for their support and are already thinking ahead to future markets next year.  First- year Market Manager Kirsten Ameling said, “I’ve had a great time working with the vendors and interacting with customers throughout the 2021 market season. As the market manager, I am so grateful for the patience and guidance from the vendors this season and the continued support and cooperation from customers. Thanks to everyone who helped make the 2021 season successful. I look forward to see what will come in the 2022 season.”

Fall produce includes apples, beats, broccoli, cabbage, brussels sprouts, cilantro, carrots, cauliflower, celery root, turnip, swiss chard, collards, fall squash, fall radish, fennel, kale, kalette, kohlrabi, leeks, lettuce, onion, parsley, potatoes, pumpkins, spinach, and sweet potatoes. You will also find fall flavored and themed cookies, fall scented candles and soaps, along with other fun fall favorites throughout the market.

 The vendors for this week includes: Ada Glee’s Garden, Baked By Bells, Bella Cuisine, Buckeye Star Alpaca’s, Catawba Island Juice Co., Countryside Acres, Clay Hill Organic, Creative Pottery, Drowns Produce, DJ’s Honey, Enders Maple Treats, Flo’s Homemade Pies, Friends of the Tiffin Seneca Public Library, Goat Milk Lotion LLC, Kisler Farms, Hopes Landing, Me and the Boys, Project Noelle, Put Your Name on it, Raizen Girls Cookies, Riehm Produce Farm, Rose Leaf Flowers, the Tiffin Lions Club, The Tiffin 200 Club, and The Tiffin Elks.
