The newly renovated Tiffin Drive-In Theater will celebrate its Grand Re-Opening Weekend over the Memorial Day holiday weekend of Friday, May 27th through Sunday, May 29th. 

The theater opened its 2022 season on April 8 after a year-and-a-half of major design, construction, and expansion to the facility. The Grand Re-Opening Weekend will serve as the new facility’s official ‘Hello’ to the community. It will also launch the theater’s Moonlite Diner daytime ice cream diner and grill and roll the theater into the summer blockbuster phase of the drive-in season.

The weekend will kick off with a ribbon-cutting event hosted by the Seneca Regional Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors on Friday at 4 pm. Gates will open for Friday’s show at 6 pm. The movie centerpiece of the weekend is the highly anticipated premiere of the all-American action-adventure Top Gun: Maverick, starring Tom Cruise.  

“We’ve redesigned, rebuilt, rebranded, and reimagined the entire theater,” said new owner Michael Cole. “We wanted to carry on the tradition of the theater but create a unique facility that would allow us to take some new approaches to how to do a drive-in theater.”

The facility’s new food diner hearkens back to a 1950s eatery, complete with checkerboard floor and shiny metallic trim. Yet the cinematic presentation is generated by some of the latest and best equipment in the world.

“I think of our theater as a blast from the past with a state-of-the-art twist,” Cold said.

The prime example of this is the theater’s Screen 1 projector, the Barco Sp4k 55 laser cinema projector. The unit is the newest, brightest, sharpest, most powerful laser cinema projector in the world. And the Tiffin Drive-In Theater is the only theater in the world who has it.

“It’s really a hoot that the most powerful cinema projector in the world is right here in our little drive-in in Tiffin, Ohio!” Cole said. “But it really is true. You won’t find a better picture on any drive-in theater screen anywhere. The image it puts on that giant screen is spectacular. It’s just unbelievably sharp. The brightness gives the picture a tremendously rich color palette, and the audiences love it.”

In addition to the new building and new equipment, the facility is surrounded by a social plaza with picnic tables where customers can dine and mingle before and during the shows. The theater’s lot was also expanded by 45 parking spots to accommodate larger crowds. The drive-in’s two screens were newly rebuilt back in October of 2020, the first phase of the long-term project.

The weekend will mark the opening of the theater’s diner into a newly expanded daytime ice cream and grill eatery, introducing its new name, The Moonlite Diner. New daytime ice cream treats, and snacks will complement the existing drive-in food fare of burgers, hot dogs, pizza, pretzels, french fries, ribbon fries, popcorn, and other items of the movie-time menu. Games like cornhole and ladder golf will be available for patrons to play at The Moonlite Diner, and before the drive-in movies as well. 

“The Moonlite Diner will make the Tiffin Drive-In Theater a place of good food and entertainment both day and night,” Cole said.

Prizes such as carload passes will be raffled to early-arriving movie-goers all three nights. A pre-show radio broadcast called “Tiffin Drive-in Radio” will be broadcast live over FM 87.9. The broadcast will carry music, announcements, upcoming shows, interviews, trivia, and the prize drawings before each show.

“We are building a unique atmosphere of good-natured fun and entertainment at the theater,” Cole said. “We hope everyone comes out to experience the fun and nostalgia and just plain good times waiting for them at the drive-in.”

The 2022 season of the Tiffin Seneca Farmers Market kicks off this Saturday, May 21st 9am-1pm. The market will occur every Saturdays of the month from May 21 until October 29 and is located on South Washington Street between Perry and Market streets.

This year the market will continue to operate the Market Bank programs. Board member, Hallie Williams, said “We are excited to bring back the Market Bank this year to continue to make fresh local food accessible to our community.” These programs allow fresh food to be more accessible for all residents. SNAP/EBT cards, WIC Farmers Market Vouchers, Senior Farmers Market Vouchers, and regular credit cards will all now be accepted at the market through the Market Bank program. Also available this year is Produce Perks, a fruit and vegetable incentive program that provides a $25 match on SNAP/EBT and P-EBT purchases. This means that any amount spent with SNAP/EBT or P-EBT, up to $25, will be matched dollar for dollar. Customers wishing to use their SNAP/EBT funds or credit cards can expect to visit the Market Bank to redeem tokens to shop the market.

Another program being brought back to this year’s market is “Market Bingo.” This became a fan favorite last year to children, parents, and customers of all ages. Market manager, Kirsten Ameling, said “It was fun to watch children and other customers go around the market to see what all the vendors had. Finding different types of produce also made it an educational experience for some shoppers.”

In addition to bringing back old programs the market is implementing new activities too. There will be different musicians playing at the market from time-to-time throughout the season. Dean-o, Dean Rochester, a Tiffin native will be preforming at the first market. He performs at other markets including the WLI’s Farmers’ Market, Bowling Green, Ohio. Dean said “I am looking forward to coming back to the Tiffin area where I grew up, to share my music at the market. Hope to be able to see old friends and classmates.” 

The market is also going to provide a recipe of the week. The recipe card will feature different items that are in season at the market. Make sure to stop by the market bank table to pick up a recipe and grab a market bingo card!

Merlin is altering the way we hear country music with the likes of Dan+Shay and Kane Brown. She has a timbre so unique and unmatched, such as Reba McEntire, Rascal Flatts, and Jennifer Nettles. Both Kristian Bush and Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland noticed this about Merlin and invited her on stage with them in Las Vegas to duet their hit song “Baby Girl”. Kristen has also had the pleasure of joining Kellie Pickler, Bryan White, Ty Herndon, and Shakira on stage.

Destination Seneca County has announced that they will be planning and executing the running of the annual Heritage Festival Parade. After having to cancel the Heritage Festival the last two years as a result of the pandemic, the Heritage Festival Parade will return to Downtown Tiffin on September 17, 2022. The Heritage Festival Parade will be sponsored by Brian Bower – loanDepot and will pay tribute to Tiffin’s Bicentennial, which is being celebrated this year, and is one of the Bicentennial Celebration’s signature events.

The Heritage Festival Parade’s route will begin on South Washington Street at St. Joseph Catholic Church and go through the intersection of Riverside Drive. The parade will begin promptly at 10:30am. All are welcome to participate in the parade and can register at www.DestinationSenecaCounty.org/Parade. Parade participants are asked to be registered no later than September 9, 2022.

Join us for a unique experience at Seneca Caverns – Ohio’s Greatest Natural Underground Adventure as they kick off their 2022 season on April 30! Their hours are from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday with the last cave tour departing at 4:00 pm. Beginning Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day they are open seven days a week from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm with the last cave tour departing at 6:00 pm.

Get a peek at what is under the ground that we walk on every day. Walk the natural stone steps and pathways that will lead you through seven rooms or levels. Feel the temperature cool as you progress into the cavern. The largest room is 250 feet in length. At the lowest level, 110 feet below the surface, see Ole’ Mist’ry River; the crystal-clear flowing stream which is part of the vast groundwater system underlying the surrounding region. You will be amazed as you enjoy this very unique tour!

Seneca Caverns has been retained close to its original, natural, wild state, this subterranean tour is truly a unique and educational experience you will always remember.

After the tour, try your hand at mining just like they did in frontier days at the Seneca Mining Company. This “gem” is a fully operational sluice with flowing water. Here you can pan for gemstones, minerals, crystals, arrowheads, and fossils.

Seneca Caverns may be the only cave of its kind open for public visitation. Seneca Caverns is a Registered Natural Landmark by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. Mike and Tiffani Aurand, Owners of The UrbanWoody Brewery, a family and veteran owned and operated nano brewery in Downtown Fostoria, OH, have announced the opening of Seneca County’s first winery, The HoneyBee Winery. The HoneyBee Winery will officially begin serving wine on April 29, 2022 at 5 PM at their downtown location at 105 E Tiffin St in Fostoria.

Their wine selection pays homage to the City of Fostoria, a community that Mike and Tiffani are proud to call home. The opening weekend will launch a wine selection that includes 1882 – a Chardonnay, Risdon Red – a Merlot, and Rome White – a Peach Apricot Fruit Wine. They will gradually expand their wine selection to include The Quilt – a Cabernet Sauvignon, Seneca Red – a Pinot Noir, The Governor – a Dry White, Semi Sweet Pinot Grigio, The Fostorian – a Rose Fruit Wine, The Dillinger – a Hard Cider, and others to be announced.

Mike and Tiffani Aurand started the business venture by beginning work on their historical building in 2018 and officially opened the doors in May of 2019 to The UrbanWoody Brewery. Mike first got into brewing approximately 25 years ago with an at-home brewing kit. After many rounds of trial and error to get something that tasted good, Mike developed a real passion for the brewing process. Mike was serving as active-duty military and at the time he got stationed in Minnesota he made the decision to follow his passion and attend brewery school. While learning the craft of brewing, he also completed multiple internships with local breweries in that area. Once Mike returned to Fostoria, he and his wife Tiffani were ready to take the leap and put into practice all that Mike had learned and opened what is now The UrbanWoody Brewery.

Mike first dabbled with wine making while obtaining his brewing certificate, it was the summer of 2020 when the experimenting with wine (the different aromas and blends) really started. Expanding into a winery has always been a part of their business plan. They have been asked often since opening the doors to The UrbanWoody Brewery if they would ever expand into wine. The husband would say “I love craft beer, but my wife doesn’t – she loves wine…..”, so the addition of the wine will expand their customer base greatly. The HoneyBee Winery has definitely been a long time coming, and with the help of their friends (and assistant wine makers), Mike Rybka and Steven Avalon, the Aurand’s next chapter of their business plan is about to take off.   

The UrbanWoody Brewery and The HoneyBee Winery are located in the heart of Downtown Fostoria in what is called “The Foster Block.” A huge part of the full UrbanWoody and HoneyBee experience is getting to sip your beer or wine or in a historical building that has been transformed for modern day use. Charles Foster, the 35th Governor of Ohio, built the building in 1882. The building features a taproom, two additional open seating spaces with another serving bar, and a space that can be used for overflow customers and that can be rented for private events. 

Mike and Tiffani have worked hard to keep the beauty and the historical feel alive in the space while still making it functional and welcoming. They chose the building specifically because they wanted The UrbanWoody Brewery and The HoneyBee Winery to be unique.

While The UrbanWoody Brewery and The HoneyBee Winery is an obvious choice and favorite for Fostoria and Seneca County residents, the brewery and winery have become more than just a location, but a real destination. In addition to being able to enjoy your drink inside the building, you can also head outside and enjoy the nice weather on the patio. To be entertained and create a full experience for guests, they have added a stage in the greenspace across the street from their physical location. Here, they welcome their newly announced Summer Concert Series, food trucks, and events like their annual Oktoberfest and the Fostoria Proud Christmas Card Display.

A retired local college professor is to share his knowledge and research on how the city of Tiffin connects to the larger literary landscape during the first event of the Seneca County Museum’s 2022 Speaker Series.

This year’s speaker series will begin on Thursday, April 21st at 7 p.m. as former Heidelberg professor and Associate Dean Dr. Doug Collar is to present “Tiffin in Literature.” The presentation is to occur in the Fort Ball Room at the museum.

Collar has taught literature for 48 years at both the secondary and college levels. Inspired by his Tiffin Columbian High School English teacher Eugene Foster, Collar received his B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. from Michigan State University in  American literature and culture. Among his interests are 20th Century literature, film and jazz. Since returning to his hometown, Collar has researched connections between Tiffin and the larger literary landscape.

His “Tiffin in Literature” talk at the museum will include information about writers such as Charles Dickens, Sherwood Anderson, Louis Bromfield, Virgil Scott, Ian Frazier and Tiffin’s own Charles Locke and Robert Martin.

Added attractions will be a clip from the 1976 film of Sherwood Anderson’s “I’m a Fool” featuring Ronnie Howard and a mysterious description of Tiffin in a novel by J.D. Salinger.

The Seneca County Museum is located at 28 Clay Street. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. The program is free, but donations are always welcome. The Museum gift shop will be open after the program and attendees are welcome to view the 1st-floor Museum rooms and exhibits.

The Tiffin Glass Collectors Club is pleased to announce that they will host the Artistry in American Glass Show and Sale for the first time since the start of the pandemic. The show will take place at the Tiffin Middle School (103 Shepherd Drive, Tiffin, OH 44883) on Saturday, June 18, 2022 from 10AM to 5PM and Sunday, June 19, 2022 from 10AM to 3PM. The popular glass show has been a longstanding tradition for 35 years.

Glass dealers from several states will join local and area dealers at this popular glass show that attracts collectors from all over the United States. The fine tableware and decorative ware that was produced at the Tiffin Glass factory from 1892 to 1980 will be offered for sale along with other quality glassware from fellow dealers.

Admission to the show will be $5.00. The show is in a handicapped accessible facility with free parking. Lunch and snacks are available for purchase and door prizes will be awarded throughout the show.

Visitors are also encouraged to visit the Tiffin Glass Museum & Shoppe (25 – 27 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH 44883) where over a thousand pieces of glassware and memorabilia items from the old factory are displayed. The retail shop offers Tiffin glass and other fine glassware for sale. Extended hours of 11AM to 5PM will be observed during the weekend.

About the Tiffin Glass Museum & Shoppe

The Tiffin Glass Museum honors the heritage established by the men and women of Tiffin’s “Glass House”. Through preservation and education, the museum safe-guards glassware made by the artisans from the factory’s nearly hundred-year history. Museum preservation work includes acquiring memorabilia and historical documents from the factory’s beginnings in 1889 until its closing in 1984. Gift Shoppe features products from the original Tiffin Glass Factory where beautiful stemware, tableware and decorative ware was produced from 1889 to 1980. In addition to the large selection of Tiffin Glass, other fine glassware, collectibles, and books are offered for sale in the multi-dealer cabinets.

The UrbanWoody Brewery has announced a new summer concert series that will take place at the stage in downtown Fostoria. The stage is located on the corner of S Main St. and Tiffin St., directly across from The UrbanWoody Brewery. Concerts are family friendly and will be accompanied by a food truck. The cost to attend the concert will be $5 per guest and the funds will be reinvested back into the revitalization efforts of downtown Fostoria.

Destination Seneca County, in partnership with Seneca County breweries, is set to launch the first ever Seneca County Brew Tour on Saturday, April 2, 2022. The brew tour aims to highlight Seneca County’s growing brewery industry and allow locals and visitors the opportunity to explore what Seneca County has to offer. The brew tour can be completed at the leisure of the participants once live and will run through the remainder of 2022. The Seneca County Brew Tour will allow participants the opportunity to explore Seneca County with visits to three local breweries. Breweries include The Laird Arcade Brewery, The Tiffin Brewery, and The UrbanWoody Brewery. While completing the brew tour, visitors will also have an opportunity to ‘Love Local’ and will upload a receipt of patronizing a local business to complete the entire trail.

Guests who visit each one of the breweries and ‘love local’ will complete the online passport. Once they have completed the passport with all the information they have collected, they will show the final score screen with a 100% correct to their last brewery stop and will receive a custom one-of-a-kind Seneca County Brew Tour howler. The howlers can also be filled at any of the participating breweries for an additional cost.

About The Laird Arcade Brewery: A 3.5 BBL brewhouse focusing mostly on taproom sales, with some local distribution. Their emphasis is to promote as much local business as they can. They strive to keep their ingredients as locally sourced as possible. It is their sincerest hope to help with the downtown revitalization of Tiffin.

The Fostoria Area Historical Society and Judy Green will allow visitors to explore the real life of the famous Wisconsin author, Laura Ingalls Wilder, who will be on hand to tell stories of the past, show photographs and artifacts, and more! 

About the Fostoria Area Historical Society

The Fostoria Area Historical Society is dedicated to the preservation of all things Fostoria. They are also committed to the education of the public on the history of Fostoria and its surroundings. The society operates two museums. The main branch is located at 123 West North Street in an 1875 fire station, Fostoria’s oldest public building. It features a Fostoria-manufactured Allen Car and a WWII era Seagrave fire engine. The other museum branch is located at 105 North Main Street. It is called Foster’s Museum, named after Fostoria’s native son and two-time Governor of Ohio, Charles Foster. This museum contains many of the Foster family belongings and other displays related to Fostoria. Both museums are open Saturdays 1-4 p.m. from May through October.

About Laura Ingalls Wilder

Laura Ingalls Wilder (1867 – 1957) has a permanent place in the American imagination for her Little House series of books for young readers. Born in a log cabin on the edge of an area called “Big Woods” in Pepin, Wisconsin, her life was the inspiration for her semi-autobiographical novels.

Laura’s publishing career began at the ripe age of sixty-five and consisted of the 8-volume set of Little House books (9, if you count Farmer Boy) and a small number of autobiographical volumes. The first installment, Little House in the Big Woods, was published in 1931; the best known of the series, Little House on the Prairie, was published soon after. 

Though the family depicted in the stories was idealized, the hardships and joys of pioneering the Great Plains in the mid-1800s were based on Laura’s actual experiences.

Her tales immediately appealed to readers of all ages, immediately popular with readers and well-received by critics. Perhaps the timing of the publication of the first books in the series — during the Great Depression — resonated with their message of resilience during hard times.

The Little House books continue to be read from one generation to another, and her life continues to be a source of fascination. Here are several biographies of Laura Ingalls Wilder (including autobiographies) for those who can’t get enough of America’s favorite “pioneer girl.”

The Tiffin Bicentennial Committee will host the first event in a year’s worth of planned events to kick off and celebrate Tiffin’s 200^th year.  The Tiffin Bicentennial Proclamation will take place Friday, March 25, 2022, beginning at 6PM at The Ritz Theatre, 30 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH.  The event is free and open to the public.

 The event will feature the presentation of the United States flag, singing of the National Anthem, recognition of Tiffin’s First Settlers and distinguished guests, an official proclamation from City of Tiffin Mayor, Aaron Montz, and a historical walk through of how Tiffin came to be and its history.  Prior to the event’s start, guests can enjoy historical pictures of Tiffin, order a Tiffin 200 building plaque, check to see if their family is one of Tiffin’s First Settlers, and more in the lobby of The Ritz Theatre.

If you’re looking for a hidden gem nestled in Downtown Tiffin, look no further than the Tiffin Glass Museum and Shoppe, located at 25-27 S. Washington Street. 

The Tiffin Glass Museum opened in November of 1998 and now displays more than 1000 pieces of Tiffin Glass. The exhibit presents examples of the glassware produced at the Tiffin factory from its beginning in 1889 through 1980.

Visitors come from across the world to see the glassware, and in the past year, they had more than 1,400 visitors from 32 states and six foreign countries.

The Tiffin Glass Museum honors the heritage of the original workers in Tiffin’s Glass House. With preservation and education, they focus on maintaining a collection of historic glassware from the factory’s almost one hundred year history. 

The museum focuses on preservation work, including acquiring glass, historical documents, and memorabilia from the Tiffin Glass Company and all its iterations. 

In July 1888, A.J. Beatty & Sons glass factory in Steubenville announced it would be relocating to Tiffin. The city of Tiffin offered five years of natural gas, $35,000 in cash, and land valued at $15,000.

In September 1888, construction of a three-furnace glass factory at the corner of Fourth Avenue and Vine Street began.

Production continued until January 1, 1892, when A.J. Beatty & Sons merged with the United States Glass Company and the Tiffin factory became one of nineteen factories under the U.S. Glass name.  

The Tiffin factory—Factory R—was destroyed by fire barely two years later, and the factory was rebuilt. After changing hands a few times, the factory shut down on May 1, 1980. 

Volunteer Paul Coffman said the museum is definitely a “can’t miss” spot in the community due to the variety of pieces made. 

“The variety of glass made comes from all genres, with a concentration in stemware,” he said. “People don’t realize how big the factory was.”

The glass factory peaked in the 1920s, Coffman said, in terms of production. 

“900 employees were making about 100,000 handblown pieces a week,” he said. 

To identify a piece of Tiffin Glass, one can find various paper labels that were used intermittently through the 1970s, along with an acid stamp. 

Volunteer Nancy Coffman said that when people get through to the end of the tour, they realize the draw of the museum. 

“It’s a hidden gem in our community,” she said. 

 Paul Coffman said the key to telling the story of Tiffin Glass was focusing on the people. 

“The hidden gems are the stories of the people who made them,” he said. 

In addition to the museum, the gift shoppe features products from the original glass factory, along with other glass collections, collectibles, and books available for purchase.

The museum and shoppe are open 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.  Donations of glassware, time, and memorabilia are welcome. They also greatly appreciate monetary donations. Building is handicapped accessible with parking in the rear. Group tours are available.

Seneca County Records All-Time High in Lodging Tax

Lodging Tax in Third Quarter Surpasses Previous Record

Destination Seneca County is pleased to announce that Seneca County had an all-time record high in lodging tax collections for the third quarter of 2021, surpassing the previous record set in 2019, which was recorded pre-pandemic. The lodging tax collection for the third quarter of 2021 was $48,755.81 compared to the previous high of $47,690.40 in 2019.

Lodging taxes are charged to travelers when they book accommodations in hotels/motels throughout the county. These taxes serve as the funding source for Destination Seneca County, with the money being used to promote the community.

“The increase in lodging tax revenue is an indicator that more people are visiting Seneca County. Seeing this number continuing to grow is proof that Seneca County is coming back from the pandemic stronger than ever. It also tells us we’re on the right path of marketing our growing community as a destination. Tourism is truly a community effort and we’re proud to be a part of this positive trend,” said Executive Director Bryce Riggs.

“We’re thrilled to see that visitors are choosing to stay here and take advantage of everything that Seneca County has to offer,” said Anthony Paradiso, County Commissioner and Seneca County Tourism Council Member.

The Heartland-Approved Epic Group Experience Designation Programs Aims to Strengthen Tourism Partners

Destination Seneca County and the Sandusky County Visitors Bureau have announced a partnership to host a new program through the Ohio Travel Association: The Heartland-Approved Epic Group Experience Designation Program. The program will be offered through a one-day workshop at The Renaissance of Tiffin on December 9 from 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM. To reserve a spot for the workshop, attendees must purchase a ticket at www.destinationsenecacounty.org/Epic by November 24 to receive the early bird special of $150 per person. After this time, the price will increase to $250 per person. The cost of the workshop is being supplemented by bed tax dollars by Destination Seneca County and the Sandusky County Visitors Bureau.

Designation as an Epic Group Experience creates a competitive advantage in the group travel market. Seneca County tourism partners will rise to the top of competition. Designation shows the group tour operators that our community is committed to epic group experiences. Destination Seneca County, the Sandusky County Visitors Bureau and the Ohio Travel Association will ensure that over 1,500 tour operators and groups nationwide see the designation achievement.

The Epic Group Experience program was developed with input from more than 275 group travel operators, receptive operators and visitor bureaus. Standards and best practices were approved by three teams of tour operators and suppliers.

The designation process opens up a wide range of tools, trainings and information on how to deliver and market group experiences. Your staff will have an operator-approved checklist for servicing groups, taking the guesswork out of the process. Tourism partners receive standards and best practices based on what tour operators and their customers want.

The very last market of the year is Saturday, October 23 and will feature Halloween festivities including trick-or-treat and face painting for kids, and all customers and vendors are encouraged to come in costume.  Trick-or-treat will take place from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. (while supplies last).  Most of the vendors will be participating and handing out candy.  The Seneca County Common Ground Board will be voting on their favorite costume and their favorite handmade costume. The winner of each category will receive a prize.

In addition to trick-or-treat, Destination Seneca County and Seneca County Common Ground will be sponsoring face painting by Shining star Faces at the October 23 farmers market from 9-1 on Jefferson Street.  “I am extremely excited to paint faces for trick-or-treaters at the farmers market. Getting to have fun with the community through the art of face painting is truly something that I enjoy,” stated Connie Maksemetz, owner of Shining Star Faces.

 As the 2021 market season is coming to a close, the Seneca County Common Ground Board, market manager, and vendors thank the community for their support and are already thinking ahead to future markets next year.  First- year Market Manager Kirsten Ameling said, “I’ve had a great time working with the vendors and interacting with customers throughout the 2021 market season. As the market manager, I am so grateful for the patience and guidance from the vendors this season and the continued support and cooperation from customers. Thanks to everyone who helped make the 2021 season successful. I look forward to see what will come in the 2022 season.”

Fall produce includes apples, beats, broccoli, cabbage, brussels sprouts, cilantro, carrots, cauliflower, celery root, turnip, swiss chard, collards, fall squash, fall radish, fennel, kale, kalette, kohlrabi, leeks, lettuce, onion, parsley, potatoes, pumpkins, spinach, and sweet potatoes. You will also find fall flavored and themed cookies, fall scented candles and soaps, along with other fun fall favorites throughout the market.

Bottoms on Bales Wagon Ride – 6pm, Bowen Nature Preserve – 11891 E. County Road 24, Republic OH 44867

Two time slots available on Friday, October 15 at 6:00PM and 6:45PM.  To celebrate the park district’s 25th anniversary, we will host two wagon rides. Put your bottom on a hay bale as we take a wagon ride around the grassland fields. Please specify which time frame you would prefer as registration is limited. Registration required by email to LRose@senecacountyparks.com at least 24 hours in advance of the program.

October 16th

Tiffin Zombie Run – 9am, Forrest Nature Preserve Tiffin, OH 44883

The Tiffin Zombie Run is a fun 5K run or run/walk open to all ages.  Try to finish the race without having the zombies hidden throughout the course steal one of the sashes you will be wearing!  Participants can register online until noon the day before the race for $30 or in person the day of the race.  Day of registration will be $35, and participants are not guaranteed a shirt.  Registration will begin at 9:00am, race will begin at 10:00am.  All ages are welcome!  Refreshments will be provided. Awards given for best costume and placement in race according to age and gender.  Award ceremony taking place shortly after the race!  All proceeds will go to CASA of Seneca, Sandusky, and Wyandot Counties.  CASA trains people in the community to advocate for abused and neglected children in court. CASA volunteers make sure the best interest of the child does not get overlooked throughout the court process.  Register here.

Don’t miss the fall event of the year in beautiful Downtown Tiffin!  Spend the day strolling from business to business gathering fall themed treats!  A confirmation email will be sent after ticket purchase, which can be presented at The Renaissance of Tiffin, 129 S. Washington St., the day of the event (starting at 9:30 a.m.) for walkers to receive their ticket (with map) and a bag.  Walkers are asked to follow all CDC guidelines and respect the masking policies in place at individual businesses.  Tickets are available at Simply Susan’s or online.

Join Linda Rose on the trail as we take in the autumn air, sights and sounds.  How any different autumn events are happening in the preserve?  This walk will last about 1 ¼ hours and qualifies for the Walking Stick Program. Registration required by email to LRose@senecacountyparks.com at least 24 hours in advance of the program.

3rd Thursday in Downtown Tiffin: Halloween Trick or Treat – 4:30pm, Downtown Tiffin 

Bring the kids for the annual downtown trick-or-treat from 4:30-6:00. Then grab your friends for an early Halloween fun night out.  Shop, grab a drink… and maybe dinner and dessert too!

October 31st

Tiffin Halloween Parade – 4pm, Downtown Tiffin

Join us as we continue the tradition of the Tiffin Halloween Parade!  This year, the Tiffin Halloween Parade will be in Downtown Tiffin to allow for more room for social distancing.  Brian Bower – loanDepot will be this year’s sponsor for the parade!  All are invited to attend, bring a chair and the whole family and line the streets!  

Fostoria Halloween Parade – 5pm, Downtown Fostoria 

The City of Fostoria is excited to host the fun and festive tradition of the annual Halloween Parade in downtown Fostoria.

Greater Tiffin Community Trick or Treat – 6 – 8pm, City of Tiffin 

Grab those costumes and get the candy!  The whole family is invited to venture out to enjoy the annual trick or treat all throughout Tiffin!

Only two market Saturdays remain in 2021 including October 9 and October 23. With the season coming to a close, the Seneca County Common Ground Board has taken a look at all of the changes that took place during the 2021 season.

 Over the past year the Tiffin Seneca Farmers Market has witnessed a surplus of changes. One of the main goals for the 2021 season was to implement the Market Bank program. The Market Bank gives everyone, no matter their situation the opportunity to purchase fresh produce and other cottage foods. In addition to being able to accept SNAP Benefits/EBT/P-EBT, Produce Perks, Senior Farmer Market Nutrition Program Vouchers (SFMNP) and Women Infants Children Farmers Market Nutrition Vouchers (FMNP), the market bank was also able to accept credit.

 The Downtown Punch Card was also implemented this year. The punch card offers rewards for customers that shop at other downtown locations. Those who redeem their punch cards at the farmers market are given a free $5 token to use to shop around the market as well as a chance to win local gift cards. Cards can still be picked up at the market and at the 13 participating downtown businesses. This is part of an initiative to bring deeper partnership and collaboration between the Farmers Market and downtown businesses.

 Another one of the goals set by the Seneca County Common Ground Board was to have vendors that can sell meats, eggs, and dairy products. This year, the market was able to add the Kiesel family who are selling frozen chicken.

 “Now that the market has been able to have a local meat producer selling meat at a farmers market we are looking to expand into beef, pork and other meats along with dairy products and eggs. If there are any local producers out there that are interested in selling any of these products at the farmers market please reach out to us and we will be able to point you in the right direction to make is happen,” said Kirsten Ameling, market manager.

 With the 2021 season starting to wind down, the Seneca County Common Ground Board and the Market Manager are beginning to look ahead at the improvements that can be made for next season. Some future goals of the market include incorporating food trucks, live music, more children’s programming, increased food selection and more ways to include downtown businesses with the market. After a year of not being able to welcome guests into the beautiful historical theatre for music, comedy, community theatre, or any shows at all, The Ritz Theatre is back!  This weekend, a long awaited and highly anticipated return of shows on the main stage at The Ritz finally took place.  This exciting celebration caused for a ribbon cutting with the Seneca Regional Chamber to officially welcome people back to the theatre and to live entertainment.  Guests were throughly entertained by the Foreigner Tribute band, Head Games.  It’s showtime! 

Fall is in the air and that means it is time for some Barnyard Fun on the weekends!  Come on down to Riehm Produce Farm and enjoy the day exploring, racing, sliding, jumping, and making memories with over 20 fun activities for all ages. If you haven’t already, it’s time to make coming to the farm your new favorite fall tradition!

Riehm’s Barnyard Fun and Corn Maze is open Saturdays and Sundays from September 25 through Halloween. This year’s Corn Maze design is celebrating Jeep’s 80th anniversary. Try your hand at solving the Jeep trivia this year.  Mazes from the past include Ohio State, Scooby Doo, Dinosaurs, Star Wars, and Charlie Brown.

New this year are pedal carts and the corn barn! The pig races run every two hours during the weekend, and you can cause the goats to walk the planks for food! Sling shot several different vegetables destined for the trash at the targets, then see the large-scale launcher—the pumpkin cannon. The pumpkin cannon will be shot off in the back hayfield, while hayrides will give you a behind the scenes look at Riehm’s cattle operation. Hayrides circle through about every twenty to thirty minutes.

Try your hand at milking-a-cow or challenge someone to the duck races. Take your turn on the Giant Hill Slide. Play games such as steer roping, Checkers, or the giant games, like giant Jenga, peg game, or Connect 4.

When you’ve had your fill, make sure you take home purchases, including pumpkins, cider, apple dumplings, kettle corn, and other fall treats. You can also enjoy farm fresh and finger-licking good food from the concession stand: farm raised beef and brat burgers, Johnny Fries – farm grown potatoes with all the fixn’s, and hot dogs for the youngsters.

General admission is $10. Children up to two are free. Event hours are 12 p.m. – 7 p.m. Saturday and 12 p.m. – 6 p.m. Sunday.  Mark your calendars for some fun filled weekends and fall festivities down on the Barnyard!

3rd Thursday | Downtown Tiffin Pizza Party (9/16)

The next 3rd Thursday in Tiffin, OH will be the Downtown Tiffin Pizza Party!  Head to Downtown Tiffin on Thursday September 16th, from 6pm to 9pm.  Stroll through the largest Pizza Party event EVER in Downtown Tiffin and redeem $1 tickets for a pizza item from participating vendors.  Half of each ticket will go to the Salvation Army Tiffin Citadel.  To enjoy with your pizza, grab a drink/DORA beverage to-go while you explore!  This event is sponsored by the Seneca County Young Professionals.

Trivia Night (9/16)

Trivia Night in Downtown Tiffin is a collaboration between TSEP and the Tiffin-Seneca Public Library. Our goal is to bring people of our great community together for a fun-filled evening while supporting locally owned businesses.  Teams can register prior to the event by calling the library at 419-447-3751 or online at tiffinsenecalibrary.org. Registration often fills quickly! The night of the event, teams will write their answers and submit them to the judges during four rounds of general trivia. At the end of the night, the winning team gets to take home the traveling Trivia Night trophy!

The laughter is nonstop in this hilarious comedy. Six church ladies arrive at Harmony Church’s fellowship hall to plan a small funeral dinner for a man they despised. While eating doughnuts, drinking coffee and gossiping on a variety of topics including Pastor Bob’s go-go dancing fiancée, the church ladies engage in a game of “what-ifs” and “I-wish-I-hads,” and in doing so, reveal several secrets about themselves.  Saturday 7:30pm, Sunday 2pm

 Seneca County Geo Trail: Kick Off Events (9/18, 9/19)

Join us as we kick off the only Geocaching Trail in Northwest Ohio!  We will be at JAM’s Monthly Market on Madison Street in Tiffin, OH for our kick off events and where the Seneca County Geo Trail will officially go live. The Seneca County Geo Trail sends you on the ultimate treasure hunt throughout the county. Along the way you may find some path tags, discover new places, and create lasting memories. Completion of the trail will earn you a unique Geocache Coin!  Saturday (9/18) find the table from 10am-4pm and attend the event that will be focused on learning to Geocache and everything you need to know.  On Sunday (9/19), the trail will officially launch, so stop by, get some FREE pancakes, and get hunting.
